As Louis Armstrong once said, ‘What a wonderful world’! We live in a great place but the earth is in trouble and we all need to do our part to help. I know, it’s easier said than done, especially with Christmas coming and bringing with it a wealth of shiny new unrecycleable plastic toys. Well never fear, Prezzybox have announced a new range of Eco-Friendly Sprig toys! You could win one too!

All of the Sprig toys are made from Sprigwood. Sprigwood is a durable, child-safe, bio-composite material made from bits of reclaimed wood and recycled plastic. Sprigwood is a highly versatile, green building material with a strong future in toy and furniture manufacturing.

No decorative paint is needed on the assembly line because we dye Sprigwood during the production process. Sprig Toys uses safe pigments, keeping our toys free of soluble heavy metals, phthalates or endocrine disruptors.

There are 3 new Sprig playsets on the Prezzybox site;

The Dolphin Set features a big, blue boat, little, blue dingy, 2 dolphins and an explorer.

Hey There Prezzybox Army!

Well, the acolades keep on coming. The good ASTRA (American Speciality Toy Retailing Association) folks across the pond have recognised our very own Bananagrams as the best Toy 2009 for 8+ year game-play!

Bananagrams is a great game and the rules are pretty straight forward. Depending on how many players you have, put all the tiles face down and take a certain number of letter for yourself from the bunch. One player shouts ‘Split’ and everyone turns their tiles over. Then its up to you to try and connect all your letter into intersecting words. You can re-arrange them as many times as you like until you have used all your tiles. Then you shout ‘Peel’. This means all players have to take one more tile from the centre bunch.  This continues until all the tiles are gone. The player to connect the last tile is the winner.  If you are the lucky one you shout ‘Bananas’ and the game is over… But be careful, a single spelling mistake will make you a ‘Rotten Banana!’

Hi There Prezzybox Fans!

Christmas is quickly approaching!, in fact there are only 6 more shopping weeks to go before the big day!

It’s a good thing there are so many brilliant Christmas Presents at Prezzybox! One of the newest and most interesting Christmas ideas is the Treemendous Card.

These fantastic little cards don’t just carry your messages of Christmas joy, they also come with a live sapling!

Inside the card is a Norway Spruce, Picea abies. The Norway Spruce is best known in Britain as the Christmas tree and can grow in excess of 36m! Wood from the Norway Spruce is known as deal and has many uses including roofing, house interiors and paper pulp. The leaves are needle-like, hard and prickly. The new spring growth produces foliage of a much brighter green. The cones ripen in autumn and are decorative.

Treemendous cards’ trees are grown from seed taken from sustainable sources with Forestry Commission approval. They are all grown in the UK to help avoid unnecessary shipping and indeed further environmental damage, the current crop is being grown in Scotland in preparation for the 2009 Christmas season. All of the card packaging is fully recycled and the inks used are vegetable based.

If we all sent a tree, the World would be a better place. By sending a Treemendous Card you could -

* Provide natural habitat for wildlife
* Enrich our own lives as well as those of our children

Once you have received your tree, it should be removed from the card, taken from its drawstring cotton pouch and the root wrapping removed. Moisten the root ball well and re-pot it in a small container about 15cm diameter with good compost, ensuring the roots are at least 1.5 cm below the surface and the soil is well compacted. The tree should be protected from frost initially, but if afterwards you decide to let your tree fully mature, it can be planted outside either in a large pot as a deck plant or in the ground to enable full maturity.
